Why being a Beauty Therapist at Saruni Mara made a Difference

Being on safari is exhilarating, there is always something new to see, a new place to explore, new people to meet and so many things to do. In between all the excitement, it is important to spend time reflecting on all the incredible experiences. One of the best ways to unwind is at our Wellbeing Space, in the most serene and relaxing environment, where you will meet our specially trained team who use ancient Samburu & Maasai knowledge to offer a range of massages and beauty treatments.

Meet Monica Kiserian Nayok from our Wellbeing Space at Saruni Mara and find out why being a beauty therapist made an impact in her life.

Q. Tell us a little about yourself?

A. I was born in Maasai land (Maasai Mara) and come from a family of seven. After attending both primary and high school in my village, I joined my mother’s small beading business at home. One day I heard of a job not far from my village, so I went to find out if I could apply. Saruni gave me the job, I was so excited and proud, as this meant I became the main income provider for my family.

Q. Why did you choose to become a beauty therapist?

A. I chose this profession, as being a Maasai girl I understand the benefits of massages because the Masaai people do massages in our villages. Working in the Wellbeing Space gives me the chance to meet people from all over the world and interact with them. I am proud to tell them more about the Maasai people, how and why they do massages and other customs of ours.

Q. What is it like working at Saruni Mara?

A. I have been at Saruni for three years now. It is so exciting, and I really enjoy working here, especially when it is busy. When I am not needed in the Wellbeing Space, I help other departments and enjoy learning new things

Q. What treatments would you recommend to guests and why?

A. I would recommend the Foot & Ankle massage because it improves circulation and reduces tension. Another favourite is the Back & Neck massage because it relieves stress in the shoulders or for those who really want to unwind, the Relaxing massage, as it improves blood circulation while relieving muscle tension.

Q. Any top tips?

A. We offer one complimentary massage per room per stay. I hope to meet you soon at Saruni Mara in our tranquil corner of the Mara.
